Gravel riding

In this second ride between Valpolicella and Lessinia you start from Bussolengo and cross the Adige towards Arcè. On a constant slight slope it passes by prestigious villas with well-kept hedges, vineyards as far as the eye can see and small villages such as Bure and Gargagnago.

From here the climb becomes more challenging and the view is lost between impeccable dry stone walls and vineyards. Once you reach the small Fumane, you enter the Valle dei Progni (valley of the streams), which in a bucolic environment and alongside ancient Romanesque bridges leads you up to Molina, with stretches where the gradient in double figures is standard: take the right pace, stop if necessary, and prepare to enjoy an incredible view once you gain altitude.

Molina, a village famous for its waterfalls, furrows, niches and erosions, welcomes you with a fresh fountain. I advise you to park your vehicle and dedicate a couple of hours of trekking inside the Cascate park. Once you've picked up your gravel again, continue on the Valcesara secondary road, which introduces you to the typical environment of Lessinia: thin walls, vineyards, grazing cows and smoking fireplaces from the groups of houses scattered all around.

After a rather bucolic and panoramic stretch at high altitude, you descend towards San Rocco, Pezza, Negrar di Valpolicella and Pedemonte. The gravel is not over: a last stretch between the fields and vineyards of Pescantina separates you from the destination of this tour in Valpolicella and Lessinia, Bussolengo.

Here you will find vineyards and terraces as far as the eye can see. There is no border between Valpolicella and Lessinia, and in this stretch you can perceive the characteristics of these two natural environments merged into a single spectacle of colours, mixed terrain, dry stone walls, terraces and vineyards on the horizon.

Very nice ride and very few cars, I would say
challenging!
In my opinion, I am not like Nino Schurter, the dirt/loose section at the crossroads of the church of Cerna and Mondrago is very challenging and some sections I preferred to get off the bike and walk a few hundred meters, then also the section in the middle of …

Cold and foggy day in December but a ride with beautiful landscapes and villages, which are discovered along the way. Definitely to be repeated in another season.

ok but what's the point of a gravel bike if the "non-asphalt" part is only 10km? Unfortunately, most of the territory, in the Verona area, is asphalted and the real off-road is more suited to MTB than gravel. For me, gravel makes sense where there is gravel and there is very little gravel within a radius
