The trail is a circular route, meaning it starts and ends in the same location. While specific parking details aren't provided, Moraira offers various parking options, especially near popular areas like L'Ampolla Beach or the marina, which are often good starting points for coastal walks in the area.
This moderate hike is approximately 6.63 kilometers long and typically takes about 1 hour and 53 minutes to complete. This duration allows for enjoying the scenery at a comfortable pace.
The route offers a variety of terrains. You can expect paths that hug the coastline, providing continuous sea views, and passing through rocky outcrops. Some sections, particularly those leading to viewpoints like the Watchtower of Cap d'Or, may involve irregular surfaces with rocks that can be slippery. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended.
Along the route, you'll encounter several points of interest. These include the beautiful L'Ampolla Beach, the intriguing Cova de la Cendra, and the historic Watchtower of Cap d'Or. The path to the watchtower offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, including the Ifach Rock in Calpe, and on clear days, even Ibiza.
The Moraira region generally enjoys pleasant weather for hiking for much of the year. Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are often ideal, offering comfortable temperatures and beautiful natural scenery. Summers can be hot, so early mornings or late afternoons are preferable if hiking during that season.
Rated as moderate, this route is suitable for most fitness levels. While it has mostly accessible paths, some sections may require sure-footedness due to irregular terrain. It's generally considered suitable for children, but sturdy walking shoes are recommended for everyone due to some potentially steep parts and uneven ground.
While many trails in the Moraira area are dog-friendly, specific regulations for this particular route, especially within the Cap d'Or Flora Micro-Reserve, may apply. It's always best to keep dogs on a leash to protect local wildlife and flora, and to check for any local signage regarding pet access.
This trail passes through the Cap d'Or Flora Micro-Reserve. Generally, micro-reserves are protected areas focused on conserving specific plant species. While there are typically no entrance fees, visitors are expected to stay on marked paths, avoid disturbing flora and fauna, and take all litter with them. Always respect local conservation guidelines.
Yes, this route incorporates sections of other official trails. Approximately 25% of the Circular route through Moraira follows the S. L. V-S1 trail, which is a local short-distance path.
For this moderate hike, we recommend bringing sturdy walking shoes, sufficient water, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and a fully charged phone. Depending on the season, a light jacket might be useful. Don't forget your camera to capture the stunning coastal views!
Moraira is a vibrant coastal town with numerous amenities. Given that the route is circular and likely starts and ends near the town or its popular beaches like L'Ampolla Beach, you'll find a good selection of cafes, restaurants, and shops nearby to enjoy before or after your hike.
Always a highlight in Moraira, a tour to the tower at Cap D'or. Today with a visit to the cave below. Even if some work has been done on the nature trail and it has been made "more accessible" in some places, sure-footedness and sturdy shoes are recommended. After rain the whole trail is very slippery. You will be rewarded with fantastic views of Moraira, the port and on a clear day Ibiza and at the top of the tower the whole bay of Calpe with the Ifach de Calpe as a boundary on one side and the "skyline" on the other side. The descent into the cave has also been redesigned, with breathtaking views of the gorge. This tour is always nice and you always discover something new, even the umpteenth time!
It was pouring this morning and we waited... When the sun came out at half past one, it was too late for a long hike and we decided to go to Moraira; friends had raved about this place. We really liked it too. Unfortunately we didn't have any swimwear with us, which was a shame, and we didn't have any hiking boots on either, which was also a shame, because we didn't make it to the tower at Cap d'Or. But we got an impression and realized that compared to Denia, Calpe or Benidorm, Moraira is a very tranquil place.
