This is a difficult mountain bike trail, demanding excellent fitness and advanced riding skills. It involves significant elevation gain and technical sections, some of which may require you to push your bike. The descent, in particular, is often described as suitable only for professional riders.
The route features a varied terrain. You'll encounter asphalt, paved, and unpaved sections, as well as natural terrain. It includes roads, cycleways, paths, and singletrack. Be prepared for technical sections with loose soil and rocks, especially on the wild and ungroomed parts.
You'll experience breathtaking views of Lake Garda and Monte Brione. Key highlights include the stunning Val del Parol gorge and the welcoming Malga Campei Hut. Other notable viewpoints offer grand vistas of Torbole and Lake Garda, such as the Grandioser Ausblick auf Torbole und den Gardasee.
The region around Riva del Garda enjoys a Mediterranean climate. While specific conditions can vary, generally the spring and autumn months offer pleasant temperatures for mountain biking. Always check local weather conditions, especially for snow at higher elevations, before you go.
The trail itself does not have specific restrictions against dogs. However, given its difficult nature and technical sections, it might not be suitable for all dogs, especially on the descent. If you bring your dog, ensure they are fit enough for the long distance and elevation, and always keep them on a leash, especially near livestock or other trail users.
The loop starts and ends in Riva del Garda. You can typically find parking in and around the town. Consider parking areas close to the old town or the lakefront, keeping in mind that parking can be busy, especially during peak season. There are no specific dedicated trailhead parking lots mentioned for this route, so general Riva del Garda parking would be your option.
No, there are no special permits or entrance fees required to ride the Val del Parol e Rifugio Malga Campei loop. It is generally accessible to the public.
Yes, the Malga Campei Hut is a highlight along the route. Huts like Malga Campei typically offer refreshments, meals, and sometimes even overnight accommodation during their operating season. It's a great spot to take a break and enjoy the views. It's advisable to check their opening hours before your ride.
Yes, the route intersects with several other trails. Notable sections include parts of the Ciclovia Adige-Garda, Sentiero del "Segron", Sentiero della Pace, and the ANELLO GARDA SARCA. This means you might encounter other hikers or cyclists on these shared segments.
While this specific loop is very challenging, the Riva del Garda area is rich with mountain biking routes. If you're looking for easier options, you might find other trails or cycleways around Lake Garda that are less demanding. This particular route is known for its steep climbs and technical descents, making it unsuitable for beginners.
Given the length, difficulty, and varied terrain, you should bring plenty of water, energy snacks, a repair kit for your bike, and appropriate protective gear including a helmet. Layered clothing is recommended due to elevation changes. A GPS device or the komoot app is essential for navigation, as some sections can be remote.
Unbelievable! Lake Garda doesn't disappoint! What a ride! A steep climb from 60m to 1709m in one go. Gorgeous trails on the plateau, great trails on a 20km descent. It's all there. In the end, I squeezed the most out of the battery and arrived at the hotel with a 2% drop!
The cycle path to Torbole must be done early in the morning and then you can enjoy it. Along the lake, there are bars, sailing clubs, beaches and always magnificent colors. When a cycle path deserves! More monotonous the one that runs along the provincial road before cutting towards the mountains at Loppio.
In the end, unfortunately, we were missing 100 meters of altitude or a few watts more 😳
A very diverse tour with great viewpoints
Actually only possible with an e-bike. I managed it without an e-bike anyway. But it was very hard....
Panorama tour with wonderful views. MtB 765 Danger ! On the descent from the Malga Campei there are dangerous concrete strips that are framed by strips of grass. If you get off the concrete strip, steering back will let the adrenaline level rise briefly ... Otherwise a mandatory tour for every Gardabiker, whether with or without an electric motor .....
Long asphalt driveway on the Monte Baldo road. Why I was able to overtake so many electric knights from BERGAUF remains a mystery to me (these batteries can't manage 1700hm?). Does not matter. It's good that I met Walter to ride up a few hundred meters with him. Thanks for the nice conversation, Walter. If I am only half as fit as you are at your age, I would be happy! The descent from Monte Varagna to Malga Campei was great! I think these concrete ramps downhill from the Campei are terrible, especially when it's wet. But the rest of the way down to the Loppio cycle path was great again. The San Giovanni Pass then needs two more grains, but is harmless. A great tour !!
