This walk took us up the rocky scramble up Birchen Clough to Raven Stones Brow and the Instagram famous Trinnacle rock formation. It's a lovely place for a sunset! Beware the midges though!
Great views on this walk. It had been raining alot this week so it was difficult to cross the river. Had to make some leaps onto rocks to get across. Also a difficult path to follow down the steep river/waterfalls. They were shooting partridge so the path was closed on the Res. We did get offered some nice grub by the shooters on our way back ;)
Im gonna say that waterfall/gorge hike is pretty expert! I think id have given Bear Grylls a run for his money this morning. Storming up there in the rain and fog with my sausgae dog in my arms..
This was my 2nd recconance for a hike i am leading. When i did the first one Birchen Clough was a torrent so i decided to lead the hike and ascend via the steep slope from the reservoir but it rained heavily all that day so a 10 miler was shortened to 6. I am hoping to lead the 2nd hike in two weeks time via Birchen Clough ,fingers crossed. And Shelley i wont be climbing The Trinacle, i thought about it on Saturday and decided not to, you are braver than i am. And i didn't want to miss RobinTrower playing at Holmfirth. Keith.
