On this tour, you use a mountain railway to get the most out of your hike. You can marvel at two beautiful lakes embedded in a breathtaking alpine landscape. Not so many meters of altitude await you uphill; but the long descent really gets in your thighs.
From the mountain station of the Graukogel lift, which departs from Bad Gastein, you warm up as you traverse the slopes below the Hüttenkogel and the Graukogel. You don't have to make an effort here and can enjoy the wonderful surroundings to the full. In the direction of the Palfnersee, which is beautifully framed by rocky peaks, it slowly gets steeper. It is now a crisp climb up to the Palfnerscharte.
There the long descent begins, which takes you past the famous Reedsee. You can use its beautiful shore for a break before you hike steeply down into the Kötschachtal. The last few kilometers are flat out of the valley. In the meantime, you can relax your leg muscles and choose your next destination from the peaks to the left and right. From your destination, a bus drives down to the main valley at the Grüner Baum bus stop.

The chairlift to the Graukogel is also okay if you are not completely free from giddiness. The ascent costs €22 in 2023.
From Palfnerscharte there are still great views, but steep to the beautiful Reedsee. From there it's really steep up to the Kötschachtal. I don't think black route classification is …
