Gravel pleasure tour: Birdy's Wirtshaus Oberderdingen

Gravel riding

On this tour, you'll encounter plenty of hills, gain a decent amount of elevation gain, and treat yourself to a culinary "hill break" at Birdy's Wirtshaus.

The route starts at the hiking car park in Hohenhaslach. Unfortunately, there's no time for a leisurely warm-up, as the first climb begins right at the start. Once at the top, the route continues through the forest to the White Quarry, where a short stop is worthwhile. The view from the viewing platform is simply spectacular.

The route continues to the Zaberfelder Steige. Stop at the pass sign, take a selfie, and upload it directly to the Wall of Fame before zipping down to Zaberfeld.

Above Kürnbach, a magnificent view of the wine-growing village with its pretty half-timbered houses opens up. From here, the route continues along country roads to Flehingen for a well-deserved "hill break" at the restaurant Birdy's Beef House, which is open Thursdays to Sundays from 5 p.m.

Well-fortified, you cycle on to the Derdinger Horn and then directly to your next pass: the Bannhalde. Now you're really warmed up, you can tackle the final meters of elevation of this loop. At 477 meters, the Baiselsberg is the highest elevation in the hill country.

Tip 1: The tour is also very easy to start from Flehingen. Then you can postpone the stop at Birdy's Wirtshaus until the end of the tour.

Tip 2: If you want to really let it rip, you can take a detour over the signposted "Hohe Reute" pass at the beginning of the tour. #hoehenmeterincoming

July 13, 2025,Rauf auf den Pass! Graveltour durch den Naturpark Stromberg-Heuchelberg
After yesterday's very successful tour, we're looking forward to a slightly longer day on the gravel bikes! Today's route takes us almost across the entire Stromberg-Heuchelberg Nature Park at 74 km, and the elevation gain suggests that we'll be exploring a few new hills in the Land of 1000 Hills. 😃
