This trail is known as the "Forest of Enigmas" because it features a self-guided interpretive route. Hikers can use their mobile devices to access virtual indications and engage with riddles related to the surrounding laurisilva forest, adding an interactive layer to the experience.
The trail primarily consists of unpaved and natural paths, making up about 3.5 kilometers of the route. There are smaller sections of asphalt or paved surfaces. While generally easy, some parts can become slippery, especially after rain, so appropriate footwear is recommended.
Yes, the trail offers beautiful scenery. You'll pass by the Zapata Viewpoint, which can offer panoramic vistas, including the majestic Teide volcano in the distance on clear days. The trail also incorporates sections of the Cabeza de Zapata Trail.
The trail conveniently starts and ends at Cruz del Carmen. This location is easily accessible and has a dedicated parking lot, making it very convenient for hikers.
Absolutely! This trail is considered an easy hike, making it suitable for all skill levels. Its relatively short distance and moderate elevation gain make it ideal for families and those new to hiking.
The laurisilva forest is beautiful year-round. However, to experience the mystical, moss-covered atmosphere often shrouded in mist, visiting during cooler or cloudier periods can enhance the "enigmatic" feel. Be aware that paths can be slippery after rain.
Yes, the route is part of a larger network of trails. It fully encompasses the "El bosque de los enigmas" trail and also passes through sections of the "Cruz del Carmen - Punta del Hidalgo" and "[CIMA SC06] Pico del Inglés" trails, among others.
While the Anaga Rural Park generally allows dogs, it's always best to keep them on a leash to protect the delicate ecosystem and for the safety of other hikers and wildlife. Please ensure you clean up after your pet.
Generally, there is no entrance fee or specific permit required to hike the "Bosque de los enigmas" trail or other public trails within the Anaga Rural Park. However, it's always good practice to check for any updated regulations or special requirements before your visit, especially for larger groups or specific activities.
The dominant feature is the lush, humid laurisilva forest, a relic of ancient subtropical forests. You'll see trees covered in delicate lichens, giant ferns, and unique flora. While wildlife can be shy, the forest is home to various bird species and invertebrates typical of this unique ecosystem.
Yes, the starting point at Cruz del Carmen is a well-known hub. You'll find a visitor center there, which can provide more information about the park and the trails. There are also usually cafes or small eateries nearby for refreshments before or after your hike.
The Bosque de los Enigmas is one of the easiest and most recommended hiking trails in the Anaga region. This lesser-known route winds through the dense laurel forest, creating an atmosphere of mystery that lives up to its name. The name is no coincidence: the fog, the gnarled trees, and the silence, broken only by birdsong, invite you to lose yourself—literally—in a fairytale setting. The laurel forest is a true living fossil that covered much of the planet 20 to 50 million years ago. Today, it survives only in very specific parts of the world, and the Canary Islands are privileged to be one of these places. Thanks to its rugged terrain and the humidity of the trade winds, Anaga boasts one of the island's most beautiful laurel forests. Hiking trails wind through moss-covered trees, giant ferns, lichens, and unique wildlife. An absolute must for anyone who enjoys hiking and wants to experience Tenerife's pristine nature.
This hike wasn't really worth it. There was hardly anything spectacular and you walk parallel to the road a lot.
Beautiful scenery. But you should arrive early enough, otherwise you won't be able to find a parking space.
A short but very impressive round. Pure nature... just great
Quiet walk without difficulty. Follow the red markers. Circuit recommended by the park but a little monotonous.
Great circular hike in the Anaga Mountains. Unfortunately not all photos were uploaded... but there are still a few impressions. We will definitely go back. The dog liked it too!! 😀
Very nice, relaxed tour. And my first since breaking my foot!!! Yay!
Because it was so nice, again on 28.03.2024 with Hans and Gabi
