Hiking

Embark on a moderate hike to Cima Vezzena and Forte Busa di Verle from Passo Vezzena, a route that covers 6.1 miles (9.8 km) with 1594 feet (486 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 3 hours and 31 minutes. The trail begins on an asphalt path before opening into meadows rich with alpine herbs in summer, then winds past the historic Forte Busa di Verle. As you ascend Cima Vezzena, you will follow an old Austro-Hungarian military road, leading to a summit that offers expansive views over the Valsugana valley and its lakes. The terrain combines natural rock with the concrete remains of the former fortress, requiring sure-footedness on some sections.

To plan your visit, start your hike from Passo Vezzena, where you will find mountain huts and restaurants to enjoy local delicacies like Vezzena cheese. The path transitions from paved sections to unpaved and natural terrain, so wear appropriate footwear. While the trail is accessible, be prepared for varying conditions. Summer offers vibrant meadows, but the historical sites are compelling year-round. This area is part of Trentino, Italy, and provides a blend of natural beauty and historical exploration.

This trail holds significant historical importance, as both Cima Vezzena and Forte Busa di Verle were key parts of the Austro-Hungarian defensive line during World War I. Forte Busa di Verle, at 1,504 meters, was a heavily fortified structure, while Cima Vezzena, at 1,908 meters, served as a crucial observation post, earning it the nickname "The Eye of the Plateau." The forts, though now in ruins, offer a tangible link to the past and are part of "The Peace Path," a 450-kilometer itinerary dedicated to WWI history. From Cima Vezzena, you can see the Brenta Dolomites and the Lagorai mountain group on clear days.

Easy but wonderful excursion from Passso Vezzena - Levico - Lavarone. Keeper of memories of past wars, trenches, forts, lives sacrificed for the resistance.

A beautiful and entertaining hike. At first on a shady forest path, then across meadows and finally on a gravel path to the summit. Now and then we walked short sections next to/away from the usual hiking path because we were more impressed by the nature than the gravel path. The remains of the fortress reflect on the one hand …

Today we go to the Cimo Vezzena (1900m), first by car at 1400m. The way up is spectacular: a normal road at the beginning, it becomes increasingly narrower and I see myself as a passenger rolling down the mountain on the right. One serpentine follows the next. I feel uneasy. This goes on for seven kilometers. Racing cyclists and motorcycle …

On Friday we started our first tour to a peak, the Cima Vezzena. On the previous days we had already seen the mountain from below in the Valsugana valley and really wanted to go up there so we could look into the valley and the two lakes from there.
However, the mountain was only accessible from the south side; the …

We arrived in Levico and, before reaching Passo Vezzena, we drove along the Menador panoramic road: it is amazing how it climbs up the rock. The plateau that opens up from Passo Vezzena is really very large: it is the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni. From here you can take several quiet routes, including the one we chose up to the …

That felt very, very good. Tiring ascent, but at the summit we were rewarded with a great view.
