Ponale Gravel Experience

This tour will take you from the splendid Riva del Garda to Pregasina pedaling on the Ponale path, overlooking the lake with wonderful scenery.

Until 1992 the “Vecchia Ponale” was the only road linking Riva del Garda and Valle di Ledro. Named after its creator Giacomo Cis, it was closed to traffic in 1995 and reopened in 2004 as a path for hiking or biking, today a gravel and MTB paradise.

Start from one of the numerous car parks in Riva del Garda and after a stroll through the streets of its centre, the fantastic Ponale path begins on a slight slope.
Pay attention to the sometimes high difference in height and the presence of hikers on foot: there is room for everyone, if you respect the dedicated spaces. Enjoy the spectacular view as you gain altitude. Beyond the bridge over the deep gorge of the Ponale stream, continue the climb towards Pregasina.

The work that can be glimpsed from the gates inside the third tunnel along the Ponale path is worthy of note: it is the Tagliata, an Austrian fortification entirely excavated inside the mountain.

The second part of the Tour, with sometimes challenging gradients, is all on asphalt, accessible on foot and by bike up to the Statue of the Madonna. After a tour in the small and picturesque hamlet of Pregasina, from which you can have a spectacular view of the lake, you descend by retracing the same route as you went in reverse, to enjoy the spectacular view downhill.
