Hiking
On this tour you follow the traces of more than 600 years of landscape and agricultural history and also explore the Perlenbachtal and Fuhrtsbachtal nature reserve. In spring, the meadows on the banks of the stream are transformed into a yellow sea of daffodils.
Only a few steps away from the bus stop at the church in Höfen, you can find out everything you need to know about the species-rich protected area at the national park gate. Then it goes down to the green banks of the Perlenbachtalsperre. In the further course, the Perlenbach accompanies you to a rest area, where you change to the Fuhrtsbach. In addition to the fantastic fauna and flora, you can also discover traces of the Second World War in the stream valley: two "West Wall" bunkers that have been preserved and were built around 1938 are on the route and are reminiscent of the heavy fighting that took place in the winter of 1944/45 in the area around farms raged.
On forest roads you hike back to the Perlenbach, which meanders along the border with Belgium. Even when the narcissus is not in bloom, you will find colorful flowers in the nature reserve, such as Bärwurz and snake knotweed. After a total of 15 kilometers you will get back to the bus stop in Höfen.

From our hotel in Roetgen we drove to the start/finish of today's hike in Höfen. The Perlenbach and blooming daffodils accompanied us throughout the entire tour. It was a very beautiful and recommendable route with only moderate inclines, occasionally very muddy due to the heavy rain recently, but easy to walk with hiking boots. This evening we'll treat ourselves to a delicious meal in the hotel and tomorrow after breakfast we'll head to the High Fens.
A magical path along the Perlenbach and Fuhrtsbach streams—daffodils bloom in the realm of mosses. Traces of the beaver family are also clearly visible along the Fuhrtsbach stream.
When the days get warmer and most plants make their way to the surface, it's time for a spring hike. The Daffodils Trail in the Eifel is ideal for this: Germany's largest population of wild daffodils awaits you in the Perlenbach-Fuhrtsbachtal nature reserve, near the Belgian border. Especially daffodils, the yellow daffodils, attract with their bright flowers and form a beautiful, radiant sea of flowers. From the end of March to the beginning of May you are lucky enough to be able to admire millions of them.

And what can we say? It was simply breathtaking! A natural spectacle of the highest order The daffodil bloom is a unique natural spectacle that attracts numerous visitors to the Eifel region every spring. The park covers an area of approximately 110 square kilometers and is home to a variety of rare plant and animal species. In celebration of Forest Day, we headed to the Eifel region near Monschau on the warmest day of the year. Unfortunately, the daffodils were only a few scattered here and there, but everything was green. In three weeks, we'll repeat the route in the opposite direction. The meadows will surely be in full bloom.
Apr 23, 2022: Also walked this route on April 2 (https://www.komoot.nl/tour/725684160). Then there was a thick layer of snow and the Daffodils were not visible. Today the Daffodils were visible and they are in abundance.
