Today we took a very nice walk to Fort la Latte along the coast. We really enjoyed the beautiful coast with beautiful beaches, nature and a beautiful, historic place. There are plenty of parking spaces along the coast, free (!) from which you can start your adventure.
The tour was a real highlight; at 30 degrees and little shade, however, quite exhausting.
🇫🇷 2.9.2022 Brittany - Lighthouse of Cap Fréhel Plévenon - Cap Fréhel - Fort La Latte. Beautiful coastal walk.
I've been touring France for a week, but haven't managed to put a tour live yet. Okay, this time the hikes are not in the foreground. But I'll put one or the other live next week. Today, Cap Frehel with its castle was the focus. The latter should definitely be looked at from the inside, unfortunately it was only quite full when we were there. We also really liked the coastal path itself, but we missed the shade from time to time.
Starting from the village of Plévenon, this long hike reaches the coast, which you follow to circumnavigate this "peninsula with two points." The cape, jutting out into the sea, creates a natural boundary in the landscape between the Bay of Saint-Brieuc to the west and the approaches to Saint-Malo to the east, and is fringed with foam and sea spray in all seasons. In summer, the flowering moorland softens these seascapes, where the cries of seabirds echo. Along the way, discovering the Fauconnière (bird sanctuary), visiting the lighthouse, and Fort La Latte will enrich your understanding of this natural environment steeped in history. A natural area labeled a "Grand Site de France," Cap Fréhel has been the subject of a rehabilitation and preservation program for several years. Visits are also scheduled depending on the season: the lighthouse, Fort La Latte, as well as guided tours by the Grand Site Cap d'Erquy Cap Fréhel.
On the road in northern France. Brittany and Plévenon on the Emerald Coast. A hike from the two lighthouses at Cap Fréhel, the Phare du Cap Fréhel, to the 13th-century rock castle Fort la Latte, along the cliffs, some of which are up to 70 meters high, on the Emerald Coast. Fort La Latte, Château de la Roche Goyon, or Fort de la Dent de Gargantua, is a formerly important fortress near Plévenon. It sits on a narrow promontory at the entrance to the Baye de la Fresnaye and has often served as a film set for historical films.
From the free car park, a beautiful, exciting hike on the GR 34 along the cliffs to Cap Fréhel (there is a charge for parking and it is limited to 3 hours, which is why we didn't park here)) There are great views around Cap Fréhel and a bird nesting rock. Continue on the narrow GR34 through ferns that are 1.5 metres high in places, with constant views of Cap Fréhel and our destination, Fort Latte. The fort currently costs €7.80, and is worth it. You could make some distance on the way back through small villages, which is not possible on the GR34 because of the many bumps. So plan more time.... we have been hiking on the GR 34 for years 👍🏻😁 and are very experienced.
