Solingen, like neighboring Wuppertal and Remscheid, were centers of early industrialization in Europe. Knives, tools and weapons were produced here and the Wupper and its many tributaries provided the energy for hammer mills and grinding shops. Since the Middle Ages, people have been producing in the Bergisch city triangle for…

January 3, 2023,Bergischer Streifzug 25 - Liewerfrauenweg
Today there was a mother-daughter tour at the start of the year. A really nice path, with many narrow paths, old farmsteads and some huts. Surefootedness is an advantage. Unfortunately, all rest stops along the way were closed. Behind the station there is parking and the general cargo, where we then let the day end. 😊

INFO:
Until the 1920s, the "Liëwerfrauen" carried semi-finished or finished steel goods in a basket on their heads from the cottage by the stream or the Wupper uphill to the Solingen merchants' offices. In doing so, they transported 15 to 25 kilograms of weight up to 10 kilometers.

Today we hiked the new Bergisch foray in Solingen and even saw squid mushrooms for the first time in my life. (Near Wipperkotten)
Little tip: Don't touch the mushrooms, the black slime smells extremely like dog shit...🤣

It went along the Liewerfrauenweg, down to the Wupper and the Kotten and back to Zwilling

In February I was on the Liëwerfrauenweg with EV Brühl. I really enjoyed the tour and it was so much fun that I forgot about the bad weather.
This time I was on the tour with @Sasa 🥾🌳🌻🐝 and the weather gods weren't kind to us again. But they couldn't spoil our fun.
Sasa described the tour wonderfully.

Today we walked the Liewerfrauenweg in Solingen in the most beautiful, miserable weather. We started from the parking lot at the technology center. The first 1.5 km didn't really feel like hiking as it only went through residential streets. From Oberpilghausen onwards it got really nice. At least as long as you were on the forest roads and paths. The …

On this tour you follow in the footsteps of the Liewer women who carried the blades from the grinding cottages on the Wupper to the city of Solingen. Anyone interested in history is well served here. If you're only looking for a natural idyll, it's probably not because it also goes through urban areas.

Great themed trail that begins in Solingen-Grünewald. In the former delivery office, which is located in the former Herder steel goods factory, you can find out about the work of the delivery women in a small exhibition area (pay attention to the opening times).
