Hiking
The hike to Fløyen starts right in the city center. A few hundred meters from the fish market, past the Fløibanen valley station, the path leads you up the mountain in large dangling ways. Due to the snake-shaped route, the incline on this hike is limited. Therefore, this hike is one of the easiest. But if you're not that good on foot, you don't have to miss the beautiful view from Fløyen, but you can easily take the mountain railway up. Information about prices and opening hours can be found here: https://floyen.no/en.
At the top of the mountain station there is, among other things, a large viewing platform and a restaurant, from where you have a great view of the city center, the offshore islands and the sea.
About a kilometer from this tourist summit destination, the actual summit of Fløyen is located in the forest. With a bit of luck, you can enjoy the view all by yourself before you return to the hiking trail and hike back down to the center.

On the second day in Norway, we went back to Bergen and up to Mount Floyen to enjoy the magnificent view of Bergen and the fjords. Today, the 🌞 of Bergen, the 🌧️, stayed away, and it was dry. Since we're still relatively well, we went up to Mount Floyen. A 6-minute round-trip ride on the Floyen cable car costs 190 kr (approx. €17). The trail leads up to the mountain, sometimes via steep paths and stairs. Along the way, there are numerous spots offering a variety of views of Bergen, its harbor, and the fjords. The upper part of the trail is lined with trees, so even if the 🌞 shines, you're also walking in the shade. Once we reached the top, a gusty 🌬️ whistled and we had to get our jackets out of our backpacks. The Floyen observation deck was bustling, greetings from the cruise ship! It was a good thing the deck was sheltered from the wind, so we could enjoy the view. On the way back down, we walked through the forest, off the beaten track. We strolled a bit through Bergen and across the fish market before taking the bus back to our accommodation. To visit and explore Bergen, it's worth purchasing the Bergen Card. With the card, you can travel free on the city's train (Bybanen) and on buses in the city and surrounding area. It also offers free or significantly reduced admission to around 30 museums and attractions, as well as various activities. More information at: de.visitbergen.com
Our first day in Bergen is supposed to take us up Mount Fløyen. While there's the Fløibanen funicular, located right in the city center and purring up the mountain in six minutes, we decide to tackle the mountain on foot. However, due to the persistent rain, we prefer to stay on paved paths. This means the summit remains out of reach, but we wouldn't have seen much anyway due to the approaching fog. A break at Skomakerdiket – a small, idyllic lake – gets us ready for the return journey. The rain has also stopped now. The path takes us past the Fløibanen mountain station, where tourists are crowded after taking the comfortable ride up the mountain. After thoroughly enjoying the view, we descend the mountain on paved zigzag paths. Finally, the route takes us up many steps through quaint, narrow alleys. Then we're back down, past the cute valley station, and then back to the hotel. We've barely arrived when it starts raining again. Lucky for us!
