Hiking

To start the route that leads to Punta dell'Orto you can park comfortably near the church of Pilzone. From here, crossing the road, you take yourself to the opposite side of the lake where, from Piazza Cittadini, go first to the left, and then immediately to the right. At a crossroads, take the uphill road on the left which allows you to admire some panoramic views of the central portion of Sebino.

Continue uphill along this road until you reach the Church of San Fermo, its nearby bell tower and the giant bench of the "Big Bench Community Project" by the artist Chris Bangle. Below you can see the island of San Paolo, separated by a few hundred meters from Monte Isola.

Behind the church continue to the left following the indications for path no. 242 for Punta dell'Orto. Continue for a short stretch on a slight slope until you pass a small group of huts and then start climbing again until you cross path no. 290 Proai Gӧlem, which you must cross keeping the direction straight in the woods.

The path climbs until it enters a dirt road on which you continue uphill, then leave it on the left along path no. 241. A steep section leads to a hut from which you can admire a beautiful panorama towards the Brione area, Franciacorta and La Maddalena.

There are just a few minutes left to reach Punta dell'Orto and from the cross placed at the summit another vast panorama opens up over Lake Iseo, the peat bogs, Corna Trentapassi and Monte Guglielmo. To return to Pilzone, follow the same itinerary as the outward journey.

Like many other peaks in this area, the ascent to Punta dell'Orto is often done in early spring or late autumn when the highest Alpine peaks are inaccessible due to snow. You can climb Punta dell'Orto even in winter, but due to the steep slope and any icy stretches, the snow could force you to use crampons.

I was looking for an easy and quick tour since the afternoon forecast was negative... but I should have stopped at the giant bench in Pilzone instead of letting myself be enticed by the signs that gave just over an hour to Punta dell'Orto 🥺🥺🥺 suitable for lovers of "further ahead" 🤪🤪🤪
