Riverside Trail Along the River Derwent

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This delightful section joins Calver and Baslow via an idyllic trail along the mirror-like River Derwent. In spring, lambs skip in the meadows and wildflowers such as bluebells, daisies and pyramidal orchids burst into life. Wild garlic is also abundant here. At any time of year, it’s a pleasure, though, and makes a good link between the villages.

The Eating House

Highlight • Restaurant

Great food and great service - if its nice coffee you're after you can't go wrong, they have outside space under cover so was perfect for us with the dogs - the first thing they did was get our dogs some water and biscuits then took our order which came very promptly - the service was excellent and staff very friendly - there is also a gift shop. Definitely will be back. theeatinghousecalver.co.uk

Landmarks in the village include its 17th-century stone arched bridge, as well as the cosy Chequers Inn, which serves great food.

Eagle Stone

Highlight • Climb

The Eagle Stone is a well-weathered block of gritstone that is steeped in local folklore. Apparently, local men had to climb the stone to demonstrate their eligibility to marry. These days, it’s a popular bouldering spot with spectacular panoramic views.
