Hiking
The Pyhä-Häkki National Park contains the best preserved primeval forests in southern Finland. Trolls and elves are hiding between trees, some of which are 400 years old – or so they say. Embark on the approximately four-mile Kotajärvi Trail and see for yourself if you spot any of them.
The varied path starts directly at the hiking car park and leads you from a light pine forest to denser spruce forest. Right in the middle you stand in front of the old big tree, then in front of the new big tree. Although the former grew back in 1518, it is no longer considered the oldest tree in the national park as it is no longer alive. During your walk you will also learn more about the carnivorous plants of the moor and you can take a leisurely break at one of the typical barbecue huts. And if you haven't met an elf by then, you might have spotted one or two woodpeckers.
