Route 3: The end of the world — Running around Land's End

The best known way to experience Land's End takes the trails between Sennen Cove and the peninsula. This loop offers you a wonderful alternative on less traveled paths, along the coast starting from the small beach of Porthgwarra.

Leaving the car park you follow the coastal path that goes around the beach. This path takes you to Land's End passing the headlands of Carn Barra, Carn Boel and Pordenack Point. The action of waves, wind and salt spray created an impressive rocky landscape. From the heights of the cliffs you can observe rock arches, sea stacks and rock islands.

This segment is very frequented by migrant birds such as the Razorbill and the European crested cormorant, as well as by rare breeders such as the green-winged teal.
The Land's End site has become an amusement park, the beauty of the place remains intact. From the top of the granite cliffs you can see Longships Lighthouse, and even the Isles of Scilly on a clear day. The legend speaks of the kingdom of Lyonesse which extended between the peninsula and the Isles of Scilly. The island, which was ruled by King Arthur, mysteriously disappeared overnight, swallowed up by the sea.

Don't forget to stop by the famous Land's End sign before you begin your journey back. Be careful on the small passage that runs along the road, and turn right to find quieter paths that lead you back to Porthgwarra through the countryside.
Back in Porthgwarra, you can refuel at the little cafe next to the car park. Land on the beach or at the top of the cliffs to enjoy the majestic views of the ocean one last time.

To drive to the start, park at the Porthgwarra beach car park (paying between April and October). Porthgwarra is not serviced by bus. A line, however, connects Penzance to Porthcurno, about two kilometers away. For this take the LAND line opposite the Jubilee Pool towards Penzance and get off at the Porthcurno beach car park.
