The loop is approximately 12.9 km (8 miles) long and generally takes around 3 hours and 25 minutes to complete at a moderate hiking pace. This duration can vary depending on your speed and how often you stop to enjoy the sights.
The trail primarily follows former mineral railway lines, resulting in a mostly flat surface of compressed gravel and shingle. While generally easy, there are a few minor, steep but short inclines, particularly at the Pleasley end of the Teversal Trail. The well-made paths and absence of stiles make it accessible for various users.
Yes, this loop is considered suitable for beginners and families. Its largely flat, well-maintained paths make it accessible for walkers, cyclists, horse-riders, and those with pushchairs or wheelchairs. The moderate difficulty and diverse scenery offer an enjoyable experience for all.
A popular starting point is the Teversal Visitor Centre, which offers amenities and parking. Another option is near Pleasley Colliery (Scheduled Ancient Monument), where parking is also available. These locations provide good access to the trail network.
The loop is rich in history and natural beauty. You can explore Pleasley Colliery (Scheduled Ancient Monument), see the The Miner Statue near Silverhill Wood, and pass by Teversal Station. The Skegby Heritage Trail section also highlights historic locations like Skegby Manor House and Kruck Cottage.
The trail passes through Local Nature Reserves, which are important for wildlife. You might spot various bird species, including Willow Tit and Bullfinch, small mammals, and seasonal wildflowers like Fragrant Orchid and Pale St. John's Wort. Grass Snakes are also known to inhabit the area.
Yes, you'll find extensive views of the surrounding countryside, especially from embankments along the disused railway lines. From Silverhill Wood, near the highest point in Nottinghamshire, you can get distant views, potentially even Lincoln Cathedral on a clear day. The View of Pleasley Colliery also offers a unique perspective.
Yes, the loop is generally dog-friendly. However, it's always recommended to keep dogs on a leash, especially when passing through areas with livestock or near wildlife habitats, and to clean up after them.
The trail can be enjoyed year-round due to its well-maintained, solid surface. Spring and summer offer vibrant wildflowers and lush greenery, while autumn provides beautiful foliage. Even in winter, the paths are generally manageable, though some sections might be muddier after heavy rain.

This walk started out misty, as it cleared, still overcast but then, as we rounded a corner to venture out towards Silverhill Woods; the heavens opened, after that we had intermittent showers , some heavier than others.. and to realise the cafe wasn't open at the end of it 🥹. A good walk, be nicer in the dry.
Returned to Pleasley today and completed the walk we had originally planned for yesterday. Rain showers as we approached Silverhill wood and another heavy shower as we reached Skegsby trail. Didn't dampen our spirits tho but we were disappointed to find out the cafe wasn't open when we got back to Pleasley pit 😂
