The Gray Mare's Tail leads to Loch Skeen. Very boggy up here. Waterproof shoes advantageous. Unfortunately there is no direct way around this lake.

I got sunstroke on this hike. I'm probably the only person on the planet who got sunstroke in Scotland🀣🀣

Not far, but great. Some parts of the Grey Mare Tail are reminiscent of alpine terrain. Good fitness and surefootedness are absolutely necessary. You will be rewarded with a gigantic view and a beautiful lake at the highest point. A dream!

My first hike in Scotland and it's already a real blast! It goes steeply uphill, always along the river. The highlight is of course Grey Mares Tail, the large waterfall that gives the trail its name. But even after that you keep passing smaller and larger waterfalls until you finally reach the high-lying Lake Skeen, which feeds them. If you have more time, you can also walk around the lake. The path runs high above, so you have spectacular views.
