From Bad Goisern, you have a good view of the 1,975-meter-high Sarstein, the main character of this tour. Your plan for today is to circle this mountain, experiencing Styria and Upper Austria at their most beautiful. Over approximately 46 kilometers, you'll ride along streams through romantic forests to dramatically beautiful views of mountains and lakes. Whether as a stream, river, or lake: water is your constant companion today.
After a short, flat warm-up, it's straight into it, and a long ascent awaits you, leading via the initially asphalted, later gravel-covered Leislingstraße up to over 900 meters in altitude. Shortly before reaching the small village of Oberlupitsch, you'll roll over light grey gravel past impressive rock faces – the ultimate mountain feeling, perfect for a gravel bike. A relaxed descent follows towards Altaussee. Here, you already have a great view from afar of the lake, the town of the same name, and the Loser, the impressive local mountain in the background. A detour into the town or to the lakeshore is worthwhile – an excellent opportunity for a break.
Via Bad Aussee, you then continue into the Koppental. Here you first follow the Koppenstraße, but then turn onto a gravel path that takes you away from traffic along the bank of the Koppentraun towards Hallstättersee. Before you ride back to Bad Goisern via the east shore path, a stop in the World Heritage town of Obertraun is worthwhile. Surrounded by high mountains, the town offers a great backdrop for a little refreshment. From here, it's not far to the cooling waters of the lake.
The last kilometers are pure enjoyment: Along Hallstättersee, you always enjoy a great view – a cooldown program that couldn't be more beautiful.
