This route was planned by komoot.
This is the only waymarked trail in the UK! A spectacular trail climbs very steeply through a wide variety of habitats from beautiful ancient pine forests to a barren, ice-scraped plateau of quartz rocks. The views are fantastic. And although threatening clouds we had dry weather!
Great mountain path with great views, well developed and therefore not muddy.
Actually, the ascent of the Beinn Alligin was planned, but because of the low cloud cover I changed my mind at short notice and did this beautiful little mountain hike. Right decision, the high peaks stayed in the clouds for a long time, and the tour offered some great views despite the low clouds. The area around Loch Maree and the Torridon Mountains is perhaps the most beautiful thing I've seen of Scotland so far, including previous trips, if the weather were (even) better, it would be unbearable...😏
The spectacular path climbs very steeply through a wide range of habitats from magnificent ancient pinewoods up onto a bare, ice-scraped plateau of quartzite rocks. The views are fantastic. This walk punches far above its weight! We visited on a stormy day in June - and were glad of winter clothing to combat driving sleet and hail at the high point of the walk. The views are indeed fantastic - and this proved an excellent choice for a day when 60 mph winds ravaged the higher summits! Highly recommended - but strongly recommend walking in a clockwise direction to avoid a very steep descent in places - easier to climb up than down, I would think 😊.
Our first "mountain" tour of this vacation. Initially, we passed pine trees. Then it quickly became steeper and more rugged, with almost alpine sections. The path was very well-maintained and safe, though. After 500 meters of elevation gain, we reached our destination. After a short break, but with ample panoramic views, as it was very windy up there, we set off on the return journey. We arrived back at the parking lot, cooled our feet for a bit, and then headed back to our accommodation. 😁
I will not reach the top of the Torridon mountain Beinn Eighe for the time being, but this walk on the side of the mountain was also beautiful. The fantastic weather after a few days of gloomy weather also helped of course ;) The sometimes somewhat steep path up was a good challenge for the legs. At the top we were rewarded with views of lakes and impressive Torridon mountains. Definitely one of my favorite days in the mountains!
