You can find a large parking lot at Malga Pramosio, which is also the location of Rifugio Casera Pramosio. The road to Malga Pramosio is generally accessible by car during the summer, though some parts can be unpaved, so a 4x4 might be more comfortable.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, always ensure your dog is under control, especially when passing through areas with grazing animals like cows, and be mindful of local regulations regarding leashes.
The best time to hike this trail is typically during the summer months when the weather is most favorable and the mountain huts are open. During this period, you'll experience high-altitude meadows in full bloom and accessible trails.
No, you do not need a specific permit or to pay an entrance fee to hike this trail or to access the Alpi Carniche park area where it is located.
The terrain is varied. You'll encounter easily accessible paths, gravel sections, and unpaved areas. From Malga Pramosio, the trail gradually ascends through high-altitude meadows, pastures, and rocky sections. Some parts of the ascent can be quite steep, requiring sure-footedness.
The primary highlight is the stunning Lago Avostanis, a beautiful glacial lake nestled in the mountains. You'll also pass by Malga Pramosio (and Rifugio Casera Pramosio) at the start/end, and the Maria Plozner Mentil Memorial. Don't miss the View of Avostanis Lake and Avostanis Cliff from Sella Avostanis for panoramic vistas.
The hike is estimated to take around 3 hours and 8 minutes to complete, covering a distance of approximately 8.4 kilometers with about 570 meters of elevation gain.
Rifugio Casera Pramosio serves as a convenient starting point and offers local products. It's an excellent spot for refreshments and also provides the possibility of an overnight stay.
You might spot grazing animals like cows in the pastures. Keep an eye out for marmots, which are known to whistle as hikers pass by, adding to the alpine experience.
Yes, sections of this route overlap with other official trails. You will follow parts of the Sentiero Italia - Tappa A03 and a smaller portion of the Sentiero della Farinarie.
Yes, the area holds historical significance. Near Passo Pramosio, you can find remnants of World War I fortifications and trenches, offering a glimpse into the past.
Like the last August holidays, the hike wasn't too difficult or long. Time was extended due to the raspberries and blueberries along the trail; we collected almost 2 kilos, but not because there weren't many, just because it was so hot. The second photo is the result.
Last day of the trail camp. Final prize for the small but great hikers with a climb to this magical place. Great team of kids and chaperones.
We drive to Paluzza (Italy) in the town of Cleulis, from there a 7 km long forest road (gravel, but also suitable for bikes) leads to the Promoser Alm (Malga Pramosio), the start and finish of our hike. Well marked paths with several possibilities. Alternatively to the Piz Timau or the Passo Promosio. As always, there is also a video, here is the link: https://youtu.be/5-nBJqg89Q0
On the road to the Monte Croce Carnico pass, once you reach the fork for Cleulis on the left, turn right instead following the sign for Bosco Promosio. This 7 km long dirt road leads to the Promosio hut. Going up during the week you may come across heavy vehicles working at the quarry. You will certainly return with your car white with dust. As a route it is very beautiful and highly panoramic. All under the sun. I recommend the anti-clockwise route passing by the Avostanis lake. The return is via the old military road. The Garmin says: total ascent mt 727 km 10
Simple walk on an asphalt path that requires only boots and a minimum of breath. Hazard-free and also suitable for families.
