Parkland Walk Nature Reserve

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Parkland Walk follows the course of the old railway that ran between Finsbury Park and Alexandra Palace. The four and a half miles provides tranquillity and a chance for those living in London, to enjoy the green environment in the very heart of the city.

It is London's longest Local Nature Reserve and supports a remarkable range of habitats and wildlife. Over two hundred species of wild flower have been recorded and it is probably the only place in Haringey where orchids rub shoulders with dandelions and ivy clambers up fig trees.

Steps leading off Parkland Walk
Hedgehogs, foxes, butterflies and a vast array of birds are spotted on a daily basis and a rare species of deer, the muntjac, is spotted from time to time.

Queen's Wood

Highlight • Forest

Queen's Wood has been a nature reserve since 1990 but has been an area of woodland since at least 1600. Bask in the oak and hornbeam trees in this urban part of London. There are both toilets and a cafe on site.

Going north there is a nice back street route to Barnet via Friern Bridge Shopping Centre, New Southgate station, Totteridge and Whetstone station and Dollis Valley Cycle Route to Barnet and onward to Ridge and Shenley.
Alternatively you can make you way via Friern Bridge Shopping Centre to North Finchley , Dollis Valley to Barnet etc. There are plans to make this into a cycle route. Do write to Barnet Council for information about this.

Finsbury Park Boating Lake

Highlight • Lake

This small boating lake makes up a small part of Finsbury Park which was opened in 1869. Running the trail around the lake is a lovely way to soak up the calmness of nature and water in this urban environment.
