The romantic mountain town of Ayagaures is located in the Barranco de Ayagaures, in the mountains of Gran Canaria, near the southern holiday resort of Maspalomas. Surrounded by two reservoirs, this region is a magnet for anglers and hikers. They are catered for here, there is a bar in the village and a pretty botanical garden called "Montecristo de Gran Canaria". A 40,000 square meter area by the artist Guy Martin, who created an architectural work of art here, with seas of flowers and pretty ponds. The reservoirs "Presa de Gambuesa" and "Presa de Ayagaures" are ideal for catching carp. Open barbecue areas offer ideal conditions for enjoying the delicious fish right on the spot. However, you need a fishing license, which can be purchased in the village. You can also enjoy the view from the accessible dam wall of the Presa de Ayagaures reservoir. Worth it. The panorama is overwhelming. (Source: http://www.gran-canaria-virtuell.de/ayagaures.html)
For a person who drives on flat roads every day, these roads are crazy. Especially on the descent, the views were beautiful, but it was impossible to take photos.
After 3 days of illness I had already done half the climb yesterday. Went fine. But the asphalt is in such bad shape up there! Maybe it would be easier to ride the route the other way around next time? There was also roadworks going on so there was a lot of sand and stuff from those tricks on the road surface. And because of the storm and rain yesterday, hundreds of small stones had rolled from the side walls onto the road surface. Easy to avoid but there were a few flat tires with some riders I saw standing there😌. Otherwise, as in years past, a wonderful round, beautiful surroundings, a bit of a "mini-Stelvio" idea along the way. I'll do it a few more times this week
That standard training round again that never gets boring. Almost skip smooth asphalt, only the first 2km below the top is rough asphalt with big cracks and cement remains and a lot of sand: there is a lot of work going on there on some new houses next to the road. Furthermore very warm again because almost cloudless today, so in Death Valley it was really hot again😝
Wonderful first ride, if you have just arrived in Gran Canaria. From Meloneras/Maspalomas or Playa del Ingles you can cycle over super smooth asphalt to the dam in 2 hours, and to the left of the school you can continue the even more beautiful climb to the top at approximately 600m. With real hairpins up and down. Just after the top you will find a few beautiful detached villas: the jet set certainly lives here. So different from the hotels and such on the busy coast
