Site of the former Carmelite Friary

Highlight • Historical Site

Here in Rosemount Park of Linlithgow are the foundations of a former Carmelite monastery. The monastery was founded in the late 13th century and was one of twelve Carmelite monasteries in Scotland. In 1624, in the course of the Reformation, the monastery was abandoned and used as a quarry.

Every Saturday and Sunday from Saturday 15th April till Sunday 24th September.

Canal Centre: 1 pm – 4.30 pm

Tearoom: 1 pm – 4.30 pm (last orders at 4.15 pm)

Museum: 1 pm – 4.30 pm, Admission FREE.

Boat Trips: Town Boat Trips every 30 minutes between 2 pm and 4.30 pm and Aqueduct Cruises leaving at 2 pm.

Weekdays

Monday – Friday between 3rd July and 18th August.

Tearoom and Canal Museum: 2 – 4 pm.

The Linlithgow Canal Centre lies on the Union Canal as it traverses the southern part of Linlithgow, an historic town in West Lothian. The scenic Canal Centre offers refreshments, boat hires and, during the summer months, regular canal cruises to the Avon Aqueduct.

Linlithgow Palace

The ruins of Linlithgow Palace are situated in the town of Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland, 15 miles (24 km) west of Edinburgh. The palace was one of the principal residences of the monarchs of Scotland in the 15th and 16th centuries. Although maintained after Scotland's monarchs left for England in 1603, the palace was little used, and was burned out in 1746. It is now a visitor attraction in the care of Historic Environment Scotland.
