Friedewald Water Castle

The lime tree in Schenklengsfeld (also called Schenklengsfeld village lime tree or giant lime tree) is a so-called millennial lime tree and perhaps the oldest tree in Germany. The lime tree stands at about 318 meters above sea level on the market square of Schenklengsfeld, which lies on a fertile plateau between the Seulingswald in the north and the Hessische Kegelspiel in the south. The market place is slightly inclined to the south and is about 30 by 60 meters. It is completely paved today. The linden tree itself is surrounded by an approximately 50 centimeter high stone wall. A beam frame has supported the branches of the linden tree since at least 1900. The wall has several passages towards the interior. Behind it is the Sankt-Georg-Brunnen. The Gasthof and Restaurant zur Linde is right on the linden tree. Mondays and Tuesdays are closed.
