I still remember the railway hiking trail well and I would want to do it again and definitely recommend it to others

View of Eselstein

Highlight • Viewpoint

The view of the Eselstein is a striking highlight of the tour, where the rocky outcrop immediately catches the eye. Depending on the light, it appears sometimes rugged and massive, sometimes almost gently nestled into the landscape. A good spot for a quick photo and a short break.

Ruins of Klamm Castle

Highlight • Castle

According to legend, the once mighty fortress from the early 12th century was founded by two brothers, both robber barons. The history of this old frontier fortress is, at least from the beginning of the 13th century, closely linked to that of the Schottwien market.
It is assumed that Schottwien already existed as a fortified independent place at the time when Styria fell to Austria for the first time under Duke Leopold the Virtuous (1192), although the name was first mentioned half a century later.
From the 12th to the 15th century, however, the lords of Chlamme sat, as a powerful and influential family, undefeated and unconquered on the rock castle, to which the whole area was subservient and subordinate, which is why the old chroniclers held their firm seat ars invicibilis, called. This changed, of course, when in 1487 the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus,

after conquering Vienna and the "always loyal" Neustadt, he also threw his armies in front of the mansions loyal to the emperor in the southern East Mark, whereby under the last gorge with Schottwien fell into the hands of the enemy after a stormy siege. Stone balls walled in in the gorge are still a reminder of this siege.

Wagnergraben Viaduct

Highlight • Bridge

The Wagnergraben viaduct has two storeys, is 39 meters high and 142 meters long. It has five vaulted openings at the bottom and nine at the top. The viewer only reveals the beauty and mightiness of these buildings when he stands in front of them.

If the trees allow it, you have a beautiful view of the old Südbahnhotel and the Semmering. From here the gradient increases to 45 per thousand.

Gamperlgraben Viaduct

Highlight • Bridge

The Gamperlgraben viaduct, built between 1848 and 1854, is one of the more impressive viaducts along the Ghega railway line between Klamm and Semmering, with 7 arches on the second floor and 5 on the lower floor. The greatest height is 37 m, the span is 12.3 m at the top and 9.5 m at the bottom.
The path leads through the viaduct twice, so you can admire it from below and above :)

This round offers great views and lots of nature. You can marvel at the viaducts of the Semmering Bahn, as you pass some of them or walk through them, really impressive what was done there.
There was a lunch break on a bench with a view of the Klamm ruins and the surrounding mountains, in bright sunshine and a blue …
