Brean Beach NCN Section

Highlight • Cycleway

Wonderful section of the NCN along Brean Beach. The sand is firm and if the wind is kind it's a real experience. Big skies, golden sand and chips at Burnham. There is an alternative NCN section in land if you don't fancy it.

Berrow Sands Beach

Highlight • Beach

Brean Beach ... quieter than nearby Weston Super Mare ... long stretch of sand. Dog friendly, parking on a stretch of the beach £3.50/day. Toilets available. Ice Cream van when I was here

Brean Down Steps

Highlight • Trail

A set of zig-zagging steps from the beach up onto Brean Downs (National Trust) Nature Reserve, these steep concrete steps thankfully get the climb done pretty quick!

These are also part of the England Coast Path.

Brean Down

Highlight • Viewpoint

Brean Down is a beautiful, small, trig pointed peninsula that sits between Weston-Super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea. At 320 feet (97 m) high, it has nice commanding views north over Weston Bay and south over Berrow Flats, whilst out to sea are Steep Holm and Flat Holm islands. At the tip of the peninsula is Brean Down Fort, built back in 1865. Brean Down is now owned by the National Trust and is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Brean Down Trig Point

Highlight • Viewpoint

The highest point at Brean Down nature reserve, but you're not at the end yet! Head further along the headland to discover the old Palmerston Fort, built to defend the UK from a possible Napoleonic invasion.

Birnbeck Fort Ruins

Highlight • Viewpoint

The ruined fort here was built to defend Britain against a possible Napoleonic invasion. It has been adapted since then to provide sighting and coastal defence until the end of WW2. It's now a ruin but very interesting with lots of intact rooms and information boards to explain what everything used to be.

Brean Down Path

Highlight • Historical Site

Official bike path up Breen Down with great views in all directions. You can even wheel your bike through the fort. Steep paved climb up but then easy gravel.
