Franziskus Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

The former "Faschingstöckl" was built on a traffic island on the basis of a pledge (Großfaschinggut, Dichtl) and demolished in 1965 as part of the expansion of the Sauwald main road.

As a result, the (today's) Francis Chapel was built.

As early as 1860, the people of Stadler decided to build a church. She no longer wanted to put up with the fact that the children had to travel up to two hours to the school fair regardless of the weather: to Engelhartszell, to St. Aegidi, to St. Roman. But even the elderly often no longer came to any church. Quite a few died without the sacraments because the oversight was too great. The permission to build a church was not granted. The population did not decrease. The driving force was the Engelhartszell cooperator, Rudolf Baron von Buschmann, who made unforgettable contributions to the building of the church. Even before the construction plans, which had been rejected several times, finally arrived on April 8, 1905, the population had long since started work. From Vienna came a "very high donation" from the imperial family of 1000 crowns.
