The lake is located on the popular hiking trail to the Lidernenhütte and offers magnificent views of the Schwyz mountains. On windless days, peaks and sky are picturesquely reflected in the clear water.

The Rophaien (2,078 m) is often referred to as the "Matterhorn of Central Switzerland". Its distinctive summit offers an impressive panoramic view of Lake Lucerne, the Uri Alps, and the Schwyz mountain world. The normal route from the Lidernenhütte is a demanding mountain hike (T4) with steep sections, rock steps, and short exposed passages. Sure-footedness, a head for heights, and good conditions are required.

The Rophaien-Ostgrat connects the Äbneter Stöckli, the Roten Chöpf and the Rophaien to a varied ridge hike. The ridge does not have its own traditional name and is usually simply referred to as Ostgrat. The route offers impressive deep views as well as wonderful views of Lake Lucerne and the Urner Alps. Sure-footedness, a head for heights and stable conditions are required.

August 19, 2024,Wanderung Riemenstalden - Käppelisberg Kanton Schwyz

We walked up from Riemenstalden. The view was fantastic without the fog ;-)
At Käppelisberg we took the train which runs until about 7pm. Maximum four people. Unfortunately the post bus had its last tour at 5.15pm...so we had to walk about 25 minutes to the car.
