Ancient Walls and Tower of Sant'Ambrogio

Highlight • Historical Site

Remains of the ancient city walls of Sant'Ambrogio, built between the 11th and 14th centuries. In this position, in particular, you can see one of the towers that protected one of the access gates to the village: passing next to the tower you enter the very interesting old village. The walls are beautifully preserved and restored. Coming down from the Val di Susa it is not difficult to get there, although you have to be a little careful: the AIDA route and the cycle paths lead to a completely different place, while it is better to pass through here, cross the ancient village, and go towards Avigliana for the ancient road, arriving at the places of Primo Levi and, if desired, at the historic center of Avigliana. In this case, AIDA disappoints a bit.

Colle del Colombardo and Sanctuary

Highlight • Mountain Pass

During this tour the climb was tackled from Villa (shortly after Viù), where the first 5km are on asphalt with double-digit gradients, and the last 7km on rather demanding dirt road, both for the slopes and for the rather bumpy terrain, after which you reach the sanctuary located at 1898m above sea level. To cross the Valle di Susa instead and close a ring, it will be necessary to continue the climb for another 2km and reach about 2000m above sea level, where however the slopes are gentler.

Colle del Lys Pass and Memorial Tower

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Small alpine pass as a connection between the Susa Valley and the Viù Valley on the winding and quiet SP197.
Small memorial tower at the top of the pass with adjacent museum.

Ascent to Collombardo which can be divided into three parts. The first, from Condove to the crossroads after Mocchie, always constant on 6 - 7%. After the crossroads and up to the dirt road, a decidedly more demanding stretch, always between 12 and 15%. The final part in dirt road returns on gentler slopes, except for some tears.
