Windebyer Noor

Highlight • Lake

The Windebyer Noor has a lot to offer: the former Eckernförde narrow-gauge railway, an old water mill, secluded paths, great trees, a glacial boulder and much more!

You would actually pass by here without knowing that you are walking along a 1,500-year-old defensive wall. The Osterwall is the eastern part of the Danewerkes. In the Viking Age, Danes, Friesians, Saxons and Slavs met here in the border region between Scandinavia and Central Europe. The Danes began to expand the Danewerk as a southern border fortification. The Osterwall runs over a length of 3.5 kilometers via Kochendorf to the Windebyer Noor.

The White Stone (Windebyer Noor)

Highlight • Natural Monument

The white stone 54.4758 ° N, 9.7909 ° E consists of reddish granite and was moved here from today's southern Sweden from Värmland. It weighs around 48 tons and is the sixth largest boulder in Schleswig-Holstein. Its white color comes from the droppings of the sea birds resting here.

August 19, 2024,01/10 Iron Lake Challenge Windebyer Noor
There was a time when I thought challenges were stupid. But since I discovered hiking, I can't get enough of them. They motivate me positively. So a new challenge is starting: the Iron Lake Schleswig-Holstein Challenge. Lake one in ten has been circumnavigated!

While having breakfast with friends, we found out that a seal had been spotted in the Windebyer Noor and we decided to go for a walk around the Noor together in the beautiful weather and keep an eye out. At the spot by the white stone, we actually saw one swimming relaxed in the water. It's a shame that you …

Partly very muddy paths and not so ideal on the road. The rest of the way is very nice 😊

Hello, the part you spend directly at the lake and the allotment gardens was really beautiful and pleasant.
Unfortunately, you also have to walk part of the way through the town or along the main road, which is less pleasant than usual.

"Sprat Days in Eckernförde"—we'll check them out. We don't seem to have seen everything... didn't find any sprats 🤣, but we did find a wonderful Noor hiking trail 👍🤩

The first lake that we circled as part of the Iron Lake Challenge Schleswig-Holstein: the Windebyer Noor. A lake with Baltic Sea vibes that you can get so close to that the paths can be flooded in places. We started at the car park, but the urban location of the Noor means that this route is easy to reach by …

@Grete is very lenient with me...
...to the point of pain, I'm afraid...
The start was late again, so the return was way outside her comfort zone... 🫣
But, we always have something to talk about/topics/content, regardless of the time of day...
...sometimes in unison, sometimes in conflict, always on an equal footing...
Older people just have their opinions 😉 …

Anyone traveling in Germany on the E1 (Flensburg-Konstanz), the E6 (Flensburg-Bayrisch Eisenstein), or on Germany's longest long-distance hiking trail (Sylt-Allgäu) will enjoy the Windebyer Noor, and certainly also the charming town of Eckernförde.

Before the Schlei Nature Park was established, Eckernförde was also the starting point of the Nature Park Trail (NPW), which connects the Hüttener Berge, Westensee, Aukrug, and …
