Well house in Burkersroda

Highlight • Monument

The fountain inside stands on a stone pedestal and is framed in wood. It seems to be very deep because the well construction is very massive.

Gothic House

Highlight • Historical Site

The building is a two-storey, partially basement quarry stone building on a rectangular floor plan of approx. 20 × 8 meters. Its fortress-like character with up to 1.6 m thick natural stone walls allows the building to be classified as a permanent house. The oldest parts in the basement with vaulted ceilings are dated back to the 12th or 13th century. Rectangular slit windows are located on the lower floor and curtain arch windows on the upper floor. A keel-arched portal is located on the west wall. Like the windows on the upper floor, this is decorated with crossed bars, the windows have deep window niches on the inside. The upper floor originally consisted of two rooms that could be reached via a spiral staircase on the west wall. The coffered ceilings of the building date from the construction period. The baroque roof is designed as a steep half-hipped roof with three bat dormer windows on each roof side.

Reconstructions from 1910 with retracted partitions were removed during renovations. In 1992 the roof and facade could be renovated. In 2008 the windows and the portal door were also renewed from the point of view of monument preservation. A cultural association Gotisches Haus e.V. looked after the listed property. Organized sculptor symposia in recent years are reflected in numerous sculptures in the area. Since 2004, the house as the seat of the Center for Early Music has also been used for early music performances. Visits with guided tours are possible by prior appointment. (Source: Wikipedia)

Former Klosterheßler Manor

Highlight • Historical Site

Not far from the Gothic House are several very strikingly massive buildings, all of which belong to the former manor of Klosterheßler. The stone-bound gable of the old main house of the manor is striking.

The manor, which was rebuilt in 1692 and remained in the possession of the von Heßler family until 1726, was built here. It belonged to the Eckartsberga office of the Electorate of Saxony. After the death of Christian Moritz von Heßler, the manors Burgheßler and Klosterhäseler fell back to the Duke of Saxe-Weimar and were placed under the administration of the Roßla Office by the Duchy. Since the Electorate of Saxony confiscated the two estates during the Duke's lifetime, disputes arose between the Electorate and the Duchy. [2] On August 30, 1726, the Burgheßler manor was finally bought by the royal Polish and Saxon chancellor Johann Christoph Zeumer. Its heirs owned it until 1806. In 1807 the property went to August Wilhelm, Friedrich August and Wilhelmine Auguste Caroline von Burkersroda. It remained in the ownership of the von Burkersroda family until the land reform in 1945. (Source: wikiwand.com/de/Burgheßler)
