A good life, especially a healthy one, should not be taken for granted, Sandl knew that too: Because he built the chapel, which is now under the protection and care of the Pfaffing community, out of gratitude after recovering from a serious stomach disease. For this reason, at the age of 40, he was operated on in the Wasserburger Hospital. When he was already admitted to the mortuary chamber, he made a vow that - if he did manage to make it - he would leave a memorial. And indeed: Sandl recovered and lived 50 years until he died on November 1st, 2012 at the age of 90. To commemorate Walter and Anna Sandl, a light procession was held in 2013 as part of the 50th anniversary of the construction of the chapel.
