Old Inn, Zolling

Highlight • Restaurant

The old host was in the 13./14. Founded as a married Tafern business by the Freising Bishopric. The building has been owned by the family since 1831 - first as a fief, from 1848 in private ownership. Today's building was built after a fire in 1803. The stately building has a large half-hipped roof, the east gable is decorated with a large mural of St. Florian, St. Francis and the Mother of God.

Place for Reflection (Zolling)

Highlight • Monument

The place for reflection invites you to sit, rest and think. It was created in 2001 as part of the design of the new through road. In the center of the square is a wrought iron cross on a granite base. At the top of the cross is a small double cross, in the middle is a round plaque with the text: "Christ yesterday-today-always". The high cross of the Deyer estate used to stand here at the crossroads.

History: The function, age or descent of the cross is not known to this day. It was supposed to be disposed of when Pastor Thiele (1985-2000 pastor in Zolling) had it prepared and bequeathed it to the people of Zollingen as a parting gift. The "attic cross" today presents itself with beautifully ornate decorative elements made of forged iron, has end decorations on the cross beam and ends with a small double cross at the top of the longitudinal beam. In the center of the cross, where the beams intersect, there is a covered white metal plaque, in which a cross and intertwined doves of different colors are painted on a circular blue field. The inscription reads: Christus heri hodie semper - Christ yesterday, today, always.
The cross is also special for another reason. If one interprets the artistically beaten ends of the beams as a thistle or tulip blossom, then there is a Caravaca cross in the center of Zolling's village. These crosses go back to a miracle of the cross in the 13th century in the Spanish city of Caravaca de la Cruz, which is therefore one of the 5 holy cities of the Catholic Church. The pleasant granite pedestal was donated by the Taresch couple, who had emigrated to Melbourne/Australia, as a sign of their bond with Zolling.
Inscription: Blessed is the man who walks in God's way!

The cultural-historical significance of this square must not be forgotten either: the courtyard cross of the Deyerer butcher's estate once stood here and was dedicated to protecting the house and courtyard, the village and the fields against lightning, thunder and hail. As early as 1960 it had to give way to the expansion of Flitzinger Strasse. It now stands on the western edge of the Meier estate in Oberzolling.

Zolling Parsonage

Highlight • Historical Site

The vicarage in Zolling was built in 1749 by the architect Johann Lorenz Hirschstötter (1701 to 1758). It represents a building with 4x7 window axes and has a mighty hipped roof. Inside there are offices and on the 1st floor a magnificent chapter house.
At that time, the architect Hierschstötter built important buildings for the Bishopric of Freising, such as the famous cathedral library and the Freisinger Wieskirche. Some experts suspect that he also created the magnificent top of the Zollinger church tower. There are some indications that this is the case, but we do not know for sure. To the north, the vicarage closed off the large agricultural farmyard, which ran over to Rotnpeckstraße and was filled with various buildings (stables, barns, grain bins, etc.) and gardens for the production of fruit and vegetables, and served as living space for the vicar and his "family".

The parish church of St. Johannes Baptist is a Gothic building from the early 15th century.
It has a polygonal choir, a high roof, pointed arch windows and buttress pillars. The upper part of the tower was designed in a fine rococo style around 1750, the builder is unknown. The Gothic vault inside shows star ribs with keystones. The neo-Gothic altar furnishings were made by Anselm Sickinger in 1866.

Opposite the cemetery entrance to the church is the Mariengrotte, an open path chapel. It was built in 1838 in the former school garden. The semicircular structure has a simply shaped front. Inside it is decorated with a rock grotto that is reminiscent of Lourdes. In the middle is a large Lourdes Maria.

War Memorial in Zolling
