Apfelroute Rest Area Heidgen

Highlight • Rest Area

Completely unexpected a beer garden-like break. Simply that way! I was excited.
Then in the direction of Flerzheim rather than through Heidgen make the detour past the radio tower is the nicer route; but please don't expect smooth asphalt... my 23 tires are reaching their limits.

Kottenforst station

Highlight • Restaurant

You can drink or eat here in the shade on hot days. I would, however, only go to this restaurant for a drink or ice cream, because with so many guests in summer it is difficult (for the operator) to spend more time with the guests. So I would not compare the quality of the food with that of a hotel.

Historic Old Town of Rheinbach

Highlight • Historical Site

You will immediately be drawn into this beautiful city. Whether it's the historical towers, the neat gable-end houses with their shops or the picturesque pedestrian paths, everything is very impressive. I particularly liked the ice cream parlor opposite the Wasemer Turm (round tower from the 12th century), in front of which one could lick ice cream on a bench with cushions and watch this tower and life in Rheinbach.

Wasemer Tower, Rheinbach

Highlight • Monument

The Wasemer Tower, which was formerly known as the “Gaseler” or “Baseller Turm” (1659) and “Waßer Turm” (1705), was the second highest defensive tower in the fortified city after the keep of the Rheinbacher Burg (the now free-standing witch's tower). It was used as a prison in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Rheinbach Castle

Highlight • Castle

Rheinbach Castle is the ruin of a moated castle from the 12th century on the southeast edge of Rheinbach's old town in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia. After remains were preserved and partially reconstructed since the beginning of the 20th century, parts of the main castle can now be visited. The listed buildings characterize the cityscape of Rheinbach's inner city and are a tourist attraction (Wikipedia).

The route can be mastered with any bike. Not the whole route is paved. In between you have beautiful views. On the way, at "Schmale Allee 30" of the Witterschlick fish farm, we bought some delicious smoked trout.
