Today I was able to cross another long-planned tour off my list. The reason for the planning was a report on Hildegard of Bingen, which featured the former monastery on the Disibodenberg. The founding of the first monastery dates back to Saint Disibodenberg in the 7th century. After his death, his grave became a place of pilgrimage, and the first …

We have wanted to visit the monastery ruins on the Disibodenberg for a long time and now it worked. The starting point was in Bad Sobernheim, as always quite unprepared and it was clear to us that many "highlights" were still closed. But you have the round to yourself and can enjoy everything in peace.

Today we first walk partly on the barefoot path from Bad Sobernheim, but with hiking shoes, although the circular path offers so much: a suspension bridge, a hand-pulled ferry, a ford through the Nahe, all sorts of obstacles and surfaces for the feet. It's sure to be a lot of fun barefoot.
But we want to continue to the ruins …

Because today was the Open Monument Day, the destination was the Disibodenberg monastery ruins.
To have a shorter hike, we started at Bad Sobernheim train station.
On the way, we were attracted by the nature-based interactive museum.
I particularly liked the moss garden.🌿🌳🌲🌿🌳🌲
We continued along the Hildegard v. Bingen hiking trail to the place where she worked, the Disibodenberg …

A cultural walk if you are interested in Hildegard von Bingen, who you cannot miss in this area. We have come across her story on many hikes, not only on the Hildegard von Bingen hiking trail, of which we have already hiked some sections. She came to the monastery in 1112 together with her friend Jutta von Sponheim and another …

The Naheland has some "mountain greats" to offer, above all the Rotenfels with its impressive rock face, or the legendary Lemberg. The small landscape pimple of the Disibodenberg would probably have sunk into insignificance if it weren't for St. Disibod came here around 640. Following a dream, he built a hut here and later a baptismal chapel. After Disibod's death, …

On the last day of our holiday we did something local, a very nice tour, often close to the well-known Bad Sobernheim barefoot path. The Disibodenberg monastery ruins were the highlight, very quiet, secluded, beautiful and historic place, highly recommended. The holiday was very nice, the landscape is unique. LG 🙋‍♂️
