Speiersberg Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

Currently (in spring 2021) the lookout point is not yet finished, but it is already accessible. From here you have a really great view of Schweinfurt towards the Rhön.

View of Theilheim

Highlight • Viewpoint

Theilheim is located with around 2,500 inhabitants in a beautiful side valley of the busy Main Valley at an altitude of 231 m. The center of the village is the church of St. John the Baptist, which was founded in 1465, and the town hall in Bachstrasse, which used to be the local school. Theilheim was first mentioned in 1098 in a deed of donation from the Benedictine Abbey of St. Stephan in Würzburg. The Theilheimer wine, which can be enjoyed in one of the hedge taverns or purchased directly from the winemaker, is also known.

Luisenhöhe Summit Cross

Highlight • Summit

The Luisenhöhe is the highest point in the area. From the cross there is a wonderful panoramic view over the Mainbogen to the Steigerwald, the Haßberge, Heiligenthal, the Vogelsburg and the Rhön. The new display boards installed in 2016, which rise in a circle from the meadow at the foot of the cross, should always give all visitors to Luisenhöhe the correct orientation. On the boards 44 arrows all around point the geographically precisely defined cardinal direction of German locations.

Jewish Cemetery Schwanfeld

Highlight • Historical Site

The Jewish cemetery in Schwanfeld was laid out in 1579. The Jewish community of Schwanfeld provided the grave digger and the death driver until the end (1940). There is a two-story Tahara house in the cemetery. On the ground floor there is still the stone washstand for carrying out the ritual cleansing (tahara). The last burial in the Schwanfelder Friedhof was that of Miriam Schwab from Rimpar, who died on January 22, 1939.
The cemetery is located on a hill southeast of Schwanfeld. The first dirt road on this street on the right ("Ludwig-Gutmann-Weg") is signposted with "Judenfriedhof". Ludwig Gutmann was the last Jewish resident to be born in Schwanfeld. He died on February 1, 1984 at the age of 82.

View of Klingenberg Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

Klingenberg Castle near Wipfeld is privately owned - and you can only find it if you look for it specifically. It was first mentioned in a document in 1279 and is located on a ridge about 1 km south of Wipfeld.
The way to the castle is ultimately blocked, but visiting the area in front of the castle is not expressly forbidden. On Wikipedia it says: "The three-storey three-wing system with end gables and a trapezoidal inner courtyard as well as the neck moat system with brick bridge have been essentially preserved to this day."

A round for those who like to look into the distance. They will get their money's worth here. And also well suited for "discussion rounds" as it runs almost exclusively on wide farm tracks.

Highlights/Worth mentioning:
- Wipfeld
- Kirchberg with rest area and view of the Main
- Summit cross at Luisenhöhe
- Schwanfeld
- far-reaching views into the …

Today I was out and about with Naturfreunde Kitzingen in the Schweinfurt district. The hike was led by our hiking guide Barbara Z. We started at the Wipfeld market square, where there are also some parking spaces.

Today I used the ferry by car to Wipfeld. €2.00 me and the car, that's a bargain these days. Parked right on the Main. We have already discovered our hiking sign at the market square. This led us up to the Church of St. John and to the viewing platform at the historical vineyard. First of all, breakfast is served …
