South Hessary Tor

Highlight • Viewpoint

The last peak before dropping down to Princetown if you're heading up from the south on Ivybridge Lane, South Hessary Tor has some fascinating history if you climb up a little closer. On the top of the granite rocks, you'll find a 'cobra', or weathered iron spike. This is one of four across the moor that used to mark boundaries.

This useful trail links Princetown and the north moor with Burrator Reservoir at Norsworthy Bridge. Riding in this direction is brilliant fun, not massively technical but a bit rocky with some fun drainage channels to hop. Riding the other way is never that steep and means you can create some adventurous moorland loops.

Leather Tor Clapper Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Under the peak of Leather Tor, this gorgeous packhorse bridge dates back to the 1830s, constructed using moorstone, aka unquarried Dartmoor granite.

It crosses Riddipitt Stream, a lovely place for a cooling paddle or dip!

Sheeps Tor Singletrack

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

A surprisingly tricky little piece of singletrack with plenty of lumpy bits to keep you on your toes. It's perfectly possible to run it west to east, but it seems to be more fun east to west - this also gives you the gloriously steppy run back down to the reservoir road.

Eylesbarrow Tin Mine Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Historical Site

A gloriously fast and fun trail heading from Gutter Tor, past Drizzle Combe (such cheerful names!) up to Eylesbarrow's disused tin mine. This is open moorland, so it goes without saying (but I'm going to say it anyhow) that it's pretty unpleasant in the wet!

Nun's Cross (Siward's Cross)

Highlight • Monument

A granite wayside Cross first mentioned as far back as 1240 was used on The Monks’ Path and the Abbots’ Way, both of which link Buckfast Abbey to Tavistock Abbey and Buckland Abbey. It was knocked down in 1846 and the shaft broken. It was restored in 1848.
