Grmovškov Dom below Velika Kopa (1377 m)

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Grmovšek Hut (Slovene: Grmovškov dom pod Veliko Kopo) is a mountain hut below the Veliko Kopa at an altitude of 1,377 metres. The hut was built in 1937 and quickly became a popular stop for outdoor sports enthusiasts. In 1942 it burned down, in 1947 it was rebuilt – and unfortunately burned down again in the same year. The third hut was inaugurated in 1954 and named after Miloš Grmovšek, the then president of the Slovenj Gradec Hiking Association (PD Slovenj Gradec).

The hut is a great stop on your hike with everything you need after a long day of hiking.

Črni Vrh (1,543 m)

Highlight (Segment) • Summit

Črni vrh is the highest peak of Pohorje. Grass grows on the dominant top, and on the east and north sides it is overgrown with low spruces. At the top is a sign consisting of three high, at the top connected metal crosses, and at the base are three wedges. Next to it is a box with a registration book and a stamp. The sign says that it stands on the highest peak of Pohorje and that it was erected on the initiative of the Mislinja PD and the Šentilj pod Turjakom Parish Office. From the top we can see Velika Kopa. On the south side lies the Mislinjska valley, while Paški Kozjak and Graška gora rise. On the southern slopes of Pohorje, farms are scattered, which provided shelter and food to partisan units during the National Liberation War. In the west rise Uršlja gora, Peca, Olševa and Kamnik-Savinja Alps, and in the north Košenjak, Gólica and Kozjak. With good visibility, we can also see the Julian Alps and the High and Low Tours far on the horizon.

Mali Črni vrh is located above Ribniška koča. At the top is an artificial lake intended for artificial snowing of the ski resort. From the top there is a beautiful view towards Velika Kopa and behind it towards Uršlja gora. Even further back, you can see the Kamnik and Savinja Alps.

Ribniška Koča (1507 m)

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Ribniška koča stands on a small plateau just below Mali Črni vrh (1533 m) in the main Pohorje ridge. The predecessor of today's hut was built on the nearby Ribniški sedlo by the Maribor branch of the SPD and opened on July 10, 1932; in thanks to dr. Davorin Senjor (1882-1960), the president of the branch, who was the driving force in the construction, named the outpost "Senjorjev dom. Fighters of the 1st Pohorje Battalion burned the home on October 9, 1942. PD Maribor-matica built a new Ribniška koča hut on the fire site the former Hutter's villas, which began operating in 1946 and were opened on 29 November 1949. In 1971, PD Maribor-matica ceded the PD Radlje ob Dravi hut, which was unable to renovate such a demanding building, so the hut was closed in 1973. Ribniška koča took over the then newly established PD Sladki Vrh in 1976. With the help of donors and a lot of voluntary work of mountaineers members of PD Sladki Vrh, the hut was completely renovated and reopened in 1978. Due to the beautiful building and beautiful view, the hut took the name "Queen of Pohorje mountain lodges".

View:
From the hut there is a beautiful view of the nearby Jezerski vrh, where there is a monument to fallen fighters-mountaineers, and further east to the ridge of Pohorje and part of the Drava valley with Maribor; on the western side, the highest Pohorje peaks, Črni vrh and Velika Kopa, rise nearby; on the northern side of Pohorje we can see Ribnica na Pohorju, Janževski vrh and Rdeči breg, part of the Drava valley with Radlje ob Dravi and almost the entire Kozjak mountain range. From Mali Črni vrh we can see Mislinjska dolina, Graška gora, Paški Kozjak, Posavsko hribovje in the south, and Savinjske Alpe, Uršlja gora, Peca, Obir, Svinška planina and Golica to the west and northwest.

Jezerski Vrh Memorial to Fallen Mountaineers

Highlight (Segment) • Monument

Jezerski vrh or Ribniški vrh is one of the highest peaks in Pohorje. As it is not overgrown, it has a beautiful view of the Pohorje, south of Mislinjska graben, Paška Kozjak, Graška gora and further towards Posavski hribovje, and north of the part of the Drava valley with Radlje ob Dravi and the Kozjak mountain range north of the valley. On the eastern side of the peak is nearby Ribniško Lake, overgrown with dwarf pine. The story goes that the flood man Jezernik also lives in this lake, who is said to have moved the lake there from Uršlja gora because a church was built on it and the ringing of bells disturbed his peace. On the west side we can see Ribniška koča hut nearby.

On Jezerski vrh, PD Maribor-Matica erected a mighty monument to fallen mountaineering fighters; it was discovered on September 10, 1961. The monument from the Pohorje tonalite is built in the shape of a square obelisk and is 12 m high. On its left side there is a large tonalite vase, and on the right a tonalite plate with a dedication written by the poet Branko Rudolf:

“Who is to destroy the courage of all hearts,
for the freedom of the burning?
The torch was darkened by the night,
a spark ignited a fire,
your spirit has remained in men,
wakes up again in strong hearts
in the rhythm of spindles and hammers,
in the loud noise of the forests. "
