View of Pleša

Highlight • Viewpoint

From this vantage, Pleša looks like a true, Triglav-esque mountain peak. However, it’s only steep on three sides, its northern end simply merging onto the great Nanos plateau. Nevertheless, a direct ascent from Razdrto can be challenging, with fixed steel cables in some places.

Vojkova koča on Nanos (1240m) is a mountain lodge below the top of Pleša (1262m) on the high karst plateau of Nanos. It was opened in 1949 and is named after the national hero Janko Premrl-Vojko (1920 -1943). It is managed by the Postojna Mountaineering Association and is open from the beginning of June to the end of September from 5 pm from Wednesday to Sunday evening, and in other months on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. It has two restaurants with 82 seats and a bar. It offers accommodation in a room with 4 beds and in two dormitories with 48 beds.

Vojko's Hut on Nanos

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Vojkova Koca is an alpine refuge owned by Planinsko Društvo Postojna (Postojna Alpine Club). It rises just below Pleša (1262 m), the most recognizable peak of Nanos, in the immediate vicinity of the RTV broadcasting station. Its origins date back to 1907, when the Ajdovsko-Vipavska section of the SPD set up a fund for its construction. When these places fell under Italy with the First World War, the activity of the SPD sections in the area ceased. After the Second World War the old projects were completed by the PD Postumia. The refuge was officially inaugurated in 1949. It is named after the national hero Janko Premrl-Vojko (1920-1943), born in Podnanos, of which a reproduction of his bust can be found. An extension was made in 1976, while in the autumn of 1990 the refuge was completely renovated as we see it today.

From the beginning of May to the end of September the refuge is open every day, except Thursdays. From October to April only on weekends. In the upper part there are 30 beds in two rooms.

Nanos Ridge Traverse

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Part of the long traverse that leads to the top of Nanos (1240 m), skirting the steep slopes of the south-western ridge (called Breg and Rebrnice) which plummet for 500-700 meters into the underlying Vipava Valley. This segment, which coincides with the Slovenska planinska pot (Slovenian Alpine Path), begins at the Sanctuary of San Gerolamo and ends on the forest road connecting the Vojkova Koca refuge.
