The lawyer Eugen Bolz (15 December 1881 in Rottenburg am Neckar – 23 January 1945 in Berlin) was a Württemberg politician and resistance fighter against the Nazi regime. As a member of the Centre Party, he was appointed Württemberg Minister of Justice in 1919 and Württemberg Minister of the Interior in 1923. From 1928 he was the last Württemberg President of the Weimar Republic – according to Chancellor Brüning, “a model example of government, thrift and sound financial policy”.

Bolz, with his Catholic understanding of democracy, openly rejected the NSDAP and had to hand over his office to Gauleiter Wilhelm Murr on 15 March 1933. Because he continued to stand up for freedom and justice, he was interrogated by the Stuttgart political police on 19 June 1933 and taken into protective custody. In the autumn of 1941, Bolz joined the resistance movement around Carl Goerdeler. After the assassination attempt on Hitler on June 20, 1944 by Claus Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg, Bolz was arrested and brought to Berlin. Interrogations and torture followed. On January 23, 1945, Eugen Bolz was the last of ten fellow sufferers to die under the guillotine in Berlin-Plötzensee prison.
