Urtlmühle

Highlight • Historical Site

According to an article in Isener Marktbote: The Urltmühle was first mentioned in 1308. The ownership situation in modern times caused uncertainty, since 1851 the mill has belonged to the Sattler family from Oberschwillach. When the Greißlbäck started to owe the Urtlmüller more and more, the Urtlmüller took over the Greißlbäck in 1894 - that was the beginning of the Sattler bakery in Isen. At the end of World War II, the Urltmühle served as a warehouse for prisoners of war; Today the mill is privately owned by the Moser family and serves as a residence.

Enjoy the view over the upper Isental south to Westach, west to Rosenberg and Mais.
The path leads down into the Bürgerpark, past the courts of the Tennisclub Isen e.V. and the former "Schützenhaus" - now a residential building. Use of this private path is at your own risk.

Schnellinger Brewery

Highlight • Historical Site

Anton Schnellinger was a master brewer at Burgrain Castle before opening a brewery in Isen in 1887. The original estate of the Schnellinger family was built in the same year and, with the brewery's growing success, was steadily enlarged in the years to come. The company had its own malt house; Dark, light and wheat beers were brewed here and, with the construction of the railway line, were also sold beyond the borders of Isen.

A cellar pit at the level of the Urtlmühlweg was used to store the beer and was equipped with chunks of ice for cooling from the Göttener Weiher. This cooling system was also used to support the installation of an electric cooling system. The Schnellinger family ran a restaurant that was open until 1962 when the company's founder's grandson, Georg Schnellinger, took over. The brewery itself ceased operations in 2001.
