Chelles mill ruins

Highlight • Other

On the edge of the Marne, this mill dating from 1861 was destroyed by fire in 1899. The arches have been renovated. I have attached a vintage photo of the mill before the fire. A footbridge that spans the Marne allows you to approach the ruins. Otherwise, in dry weather, the bank of the Marne also allows you to go to the arches of the mill. You can park along the quai auguste Prévost (free parking). Facing these ruins, you have the small park of the Old Mill where you can also walk. A beautiful stroll along the Marne. To have

magnificent industrial complex of the former chocolate factory, in the 20th century, headquarters of Nestlé France. Today it is an industrial wasteland undergoing redevelopment. Absolutely worth a visit (during heritage days and by reservation), otherwise, you can cycle along the factory on both sides of the Marne.

Marne Statues Park

Highlight • Monument

The park of statues of the marl (also called "Jardin de sculptures de la Dhuys") is visible just after crossing the Dhuys footbridge connecting Dampmart to Chessy.

This garden includes about forty statues, divided into two groups: a first group where the statues are arranged on a lawn of about 80 m by 50 m, and a second group where the statues rise along a path of 200 m long, between the Marne and a field. The site is freely accessible. The statues are monumental, some reaching 4 m in height, and are carved from blocks of white limestone assembled by mortar. They mainly represent human characters, mainly female, or animals, mythical or real. Each sculpture bears the initial of the sculptor, as well as its date of creation. (Extract from "Wikipedia")

Chelles dam

Highlight • River

Like any dam, the Chelles lock is used to regulate water floods and allow the good circulation of boats across the river, as well as to prevent flooding. The resulting water show is quite impressive, offering a superb view of the Marne.
