Sopot Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

Sopot Lighthouse is a picturesque building next to the Sopot Pier with an unusual history. Originally designed as a chimney, it was built in 1903 to house the boiler room of a balneological facility without spoiling the aesthetic appearance. By installing lighting, the tower was also used as a navigation mark. In 1977 it received full lighthouse status after upgrading optics and lighting to achieve a range of over 17 nautical miles. Today it has a range of 7 nautical miles. The lighthouse offers an impressive view of the Gdańsk Bay and the panorama of the Tri-City.

Funny house, unfortunately a bit poor to see, as long as the trees in front are leafy.

Sopot Balneological Center

Highlight • Historical Site

The Balneological Center in Sopot, Poland, is part of the Pomeranian Rheumatology Center Dr. Jadwigi Titz-Kosko. The building was designed in 1903 by the architects Paul Puchmüller and Heinrich Dunkel and completed in 1904. It was built on the site of a former bathing establishment. The center was listed as a monument in 1982.

The building is decorated with sculptures and stained glass windows. Above the main portal there is a mermaid, a triton and the coat of arms of the city of Sopot. The chimney at the north-east corner of the building features a glass viewing gallery that also serves as a lighthouse. Various treatments are offered in the balneology department, including brine baths, cryotherapy, exercise therapy, balneotherapy, hydrotherapy, inhalation and rehabilitation of the musculoskeletal system.

Opposite the center is a fountain fed with water from the St. Wojciech spring. There were plans to reconstruct the tower's lantern, which was removed in the 1960s. The tower is made of ceramic bricks and lime mortar and was once about 32.5 meters above sea level.

The Balneological Center in Sopot is a historical and architectural jewel.
