Streuvels did not want a statue, but he hoped that the Thrush's Nest would be preserved intact after his death. And that happened. The Province of West Flanders bought and restored the house and opened it to the public, a task that has since been taken over by the Flemish Government and the Letterenhuis. In the winter months, writers take up residence in Het Lijsternest.

The farm known as "'t goed ter Landergem" or "Landergemhoeve" and the adjacent chicory farm known as "Delez(s)ie" (see the farm's operator's name). This historically important, but now extensively renovated, farmstead was part of the Oudenaarde county fiefdom, the Stenen Man, during the Ancien Régime.
Old maps, including the Atlas der Buurtwegen (Atlas of Local Roads) (circa 1845), show a fully walled site with a main courtyard and a farmyard. The stable and barn are the recognizable structures in the farmyard. Currently, the farmstead consists of detached components: the 19th-century house to the north, the barn to the west, and the stable to the east. The building is located southwest of the house. The site is bordered to the east and south by poplars.
The building is considered one of the best-preserved examples in central and southwestern Flanders.
This brick building has a closed character (few wall openings) dating from around 1920, with an older core (small building), on a rectangular plan, under a saddleback roof with flat tiles (insulated) and a ventilation hood (Pottelberg type), without gutters. All walls are extensively anchored with both vertical and cruciform wrought-iron and ornate cast-iron anchors.
Three floors (a building with perforated iron plates; a pre-processing area with a riveting board on the ground floor; and a wooden floor in the attics).
Cascade production (gravity): material is fed from outside onto the ground floor via a brick wash basin (outside) and conveyor belts (iron trays on chains, brand "Vandesteene Ootegem"), sloping upwards inward and, after cutting and weighing, transported vertically to the third floor. From there, further processing takes place, including drying (in the oven) and stacking (in a stacking area with a wooden wall and insulation). A boiler room with two coke ovens equipped with cast iron mouths and doors. A furnace with two iron distribution systems for hot air. All transport is carried out via belt drives for upward transport and via drop holes for downward transport. A cooling room provides rapid cooling.
