According to sources and historical evidence, it is probable that a small religious community of the Order of Franciscan Friars Minor already existed in the Moltedi area before the 15th century. However, it was the same order that founded a new settlement in the area where in ancient times there was a communication route, a mule track, which allowed the connection between the seaside village of Levanto and its immediate hinterland with the numerous historic centres. The church, as well as a first part of the convent complex, were therefore built between 1449 and 1460.

Already at the end of the fifteenth century and the beginning of the sixteenth century the convent body underwent a subsequent expansion which affected the second part of the cloister; the first cloister dates back to the original foundation of the site.

It was a mournful event that occurred on a Sunday morning in 1613[1], with the collapse of the left nave during the liturgical celebration which caused the death of 17 people, which urgently brought about new works to the church such as the lengthening of a span and the raising of the ceiling, works carried out in 1615.

In addition to other interventions in the following centuries, the entire complex more recently underwent restoration and recovery, especially in the complex recovery between 1980 and 1992[1] where an attempt was made to bring, as far as possible, the building to its primitive forms.
