Crespi d'Adda Workers' Village

Highlight (Segment) • Historical Site

The Crespi d'Adda Workers' Village is an exceptionally well-preserved historic company town, built starting in 1877 by the Crespi family for the workers of their cotton mill.

The town center is considered the finest example of a company town in Southern Europe for its conception of an "ideal city," where workers had all the necessary services, including single-family homes and social facilities. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the houses are still inhabited.

Due to its importance, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.

Villa Crespi (Crespi d'Adda)

Highlight • Castle

Villa Crespi is a real castle, conceived as a set of neo-medieval architectural styles, characterized by turrets, mullioned windows and spires with the clear intention of emphasizing the role of modern "feudatory" of the village. Positioned next to the factory, it served as a fourteenth-century medieval manor house (1893 - 1894), with its tower, symbol of the power of the Crespi family.

The exposed brick facing, the stone decorations, the protruding cornices, the complex interweaving of balconies, loggias and the Ghibelline battlements are all elements that contribute to characterizing this unmistakable architecture.

What to say? To go from Milan to Selvino this is not the fastest way, but certainly the safest, because out of traffic, and very pleasant.
