The Cote de Domancy was the key feature in the 1980 World Championships still considered to be one of the toughest courses in the UCI World's history. A race of over 200kms and nearly 6000M of climbing, the riders climbed the Cote 20 times.

Fast-forward to today and the Cote is a regular feature in the Tour de France and the Criterium du Dauphine both as a climb and a descent. Chris Froome slid off his bike descending in the 2016 Tour de France whilst wearing the yellow jersey.

At the bottom of the Cote the is a sculpture of a cyclists and on the first ramp of the climb there is a board proclaiming Hinault's win. There is also another statue to Hinault in nearby Sallanches
