I did this route 2 years ago. It's constantly uphill at the beginning (sometimes steep), but the descent is all the more beautiful. The landscape is worth seeing, there are lots of paths right by the water, and in the Preßnitztal you're almost alone on weekdays.
Unfortunately, the paths are mostly unpaved.
